Citizens of Lofa County are already celebrating the news that the Government of Liberia has begun feasibility studies for the asphalt pavement of the Gbarnga-Mendikorma high, describing it as the biggest gift ever the county would receive from any administration.
Thanks to President Serleaf and his hard-working Minister Samuel Kofi Woods
for their road construction iniatives in Lofa County. Atleast Liberians can
be proud of a major road network in the north-western regions of Liberia,
if, and only if, the projects are implemented successfully. Hope they
succeed as they did with the Buchanan Highway. What remains importantly is
the south-eastern regions of Liberia, particularly so, from mid-eastern
Liberia to Maryland County known as the Ganta-Harper Highway. This project
was initiated by the Samuel Doe Government, but the fate of the said
project is a matter of history. It goes without saying that Government
cannot bear the burden of all the demands of its citizens, yet, Government
has the obligation to provide the mechanism by which the citizens can help
themselves. Importantly, road-networks are cardinal to improving the
livelihood of the ordinary Liberians. Roads will definitely attract people
to rural Liberia and reduced the over-crowdedness of our capital and major
commercial city, Monrovia. The old saying goes: "show me a place to stand
and I will move the world." Give the Liberian people good roads and watch
them develop themselves environmentally, economically and socially. Thanks
for the space Mr. Editor.
Citizens of Lofa County should not celebrate so soon because the road
project have not started. I am saying this because we are very good at
planning but implementation is lacking. Furthermore, road projects giving
to construction companies in Liberia aren't good. Therefore, the government
need to put up a bid not only among firms operating in Liberia. If the
government want a better road network, they must also visit Europe and
United States for firms to compete road projects.
