The Gibe III dam could help Ethiopia's development, but it might also be disastrous for the environment and threaten half a million people's livelihoods.
this explanation of negative effects are direct reflection of the white
Europeans who want to visit the traditional ingenious people who does not
wear clothes and drink water from dirty wells. we Africans should not be
tricked twice by this white peoples they already made us suffer in the era
of their colony by armed power. now they are also coming in the form of
intellectual and structural power they built to dismantle Africa. Apart
from this all of you just do not forget that it is Ethiopia, if you do not
remember anything go and ask Italians they will tell you all about this
country.
I love the way this article is written (from a jornalist stand point). It
shows how to sling mud vehemently if you want to trash any thing you
dislike. African journalist should learn from it how to write for purpose.
That starts from the article by saying controversial. This dam has nothing
controversial except angrying few old white guys living around Lake Turkana
who lost their compitive adge for their planned wind farming and their
California based friends. It goes on by saying that the environmental
impact study is not upto standard. The reason is that the study was done by
only Africans without involving any one non-African. Hence, it is not
trustworthy!!! The world bank could not fund the project because few white
men in Kenya and California has harassed the bank. They are more vocal than
the more than 500,000 indiginious people who pledged for the construction
of the dam and for the wise use of their resources.
Africa wake up!!
The writer of this article is highly foolhardy. The whole idea of
opposition to the project is to keep Ethiopia stay poor. They are enraged
just because they know this country is trying to alleviate poverty and
become a power house in the process. Since Ethiopia never was colonized by
their likes, the rigorous development undertaken by the current government
is becoming thorn in their eyes which is full of vile. They will not leave
any stone not turned until they achieve their goal that is to disable
successive the projects on the rivers of the country, Gibe III, IV,etc...
or The Grand Renaissance Dam over Abay (Blue Nile) river. Other than trying
to strangulate this historical country and its 80+ million people their
argument wont hold water. Ethiopia has made proper research before the
commencements of the projects in question. Only the experts to the fact
finding don't necessarily have to be color white!
Therefore, deal with it the project(s) will continue to completion whether
world bank financed it or the barking of few hippo-lovers gets louder.
Those doggy writers who disservice their compatriots for a few bone throw
will be ashamed at last!!!
