Exploratory Calculations on development based on its traditional tape rule only underscore statistical relevance; the intrinsic tenets of real development is suppressed. In an attitude of vehemence, I utterly venerate the concluding paragraph of the parent write-up. Juxtaposing both economies, S.A. is indubitably on the higher rung relative to Nigeria presently, even in the medium term.. This fact is glaringly conspicuous, given the S.A's institutional framework, infrastructure and human development et al. In absence of over-optimism thus affording Nigeria of a possible overtaking,I think, on the track of development, Nigeria needs to accelerate at a supersonic speed in nearly on sectors for a possible overtaking.

Nigeria has a serious problem with corruption and a poor decaying infrastructures - If these two big problems could be tackled other issues like tribalism violence and threats of disintergration will gradually disappear - also I believe if these were resolved South Africa would not be able to touch Nigeria in as little as 5 years time. May I am biased but I believe Nigeria has massive potential in resources and Human capital which is just being wasted and left to decay

Nigeria's chaotic economy would or might have already overtaken South Africa. But South Africans shall remain more than 7 times richer than Nigerians and Nigeria infrastructure deficit shall perhaps confine it for an even longer time. Above all, Nigeria is a facade. It is not a real country like South Africa. Therefore,it is constantly under threat of an imminent breakup. Nigerians themselves are deeply unhappy about the political and religious violence that threaten their unity and therefore very apprehensive about its future as a united entity.Nigeria isn't going to be a factor for a long time because it is irredeemably destined to disintegrate soon, unless their roundly corrupt leaders find a way to stem corruption and restructure their country fairly enough to discourage the agitation for statehood by its various tribes and peoples.

    Go Nigeria!!!!

You just need to work hard in upgrading your infrastructure;roads, railway ,ports and power plants. You also need to overcome pervasive corruption and invest heavily in human development.

If you work seriously on these things,we will not even be comparing Nigeria and South Africa.

Well, every country should develop within her circumstances. Comparing SA and NGN is neither here nor there. Currently, based on peer group evaluation, SA is well ahead of NGN in several sectors. But the potentials are always there for both countries both in terms of extractive industry and human capital developments. These two development indexes are fundamental to exponential growth rate where corruption is in check. NGN and SA have a serious issue to settle on this thing called CORRUPTION. Sources of all the commentaries on Nigeria's eminent breakup are usually discernible: they are from those who have failed to "make it". The Ibrus, Dantatas, Folawayos, Arthur Ezes, Dangotes, the Kalus and Solidos of Nigeria are far removed from the threat. The common Nigerian who is eking a living in any market is also far removed. The lazy elites who have been beaten silly in the corruption game are the ones fanning the amber of disintegration and anarchy. I have a house each in Port Harcourt, Jalingo, Abuja and Warri. I am trying to fix a bakery in Asaba. Who says my priority is about breaking up Nigeria? Who is really interested? Unless and until we realise that simple cooperation is the secret of the success story that is the anthill, our potentials whether in SA or NGN will remain just that: potential. 2020 will come and leave us still where were are if our ships are not sailing in the same direction.

@andetsiki Permit me to say that you are very far away removed from the average Nigerian. I do not know the last time you decide to hang out with the local barber guy or the average electrician. I tell you of a truth, this are the largest in population size in Nigeria, they are all totally for a divided Nigeria.

It is a known fact that Igbos have always desire a Biafra of their own, with the south-south claiming that 'Nigeria' is getting fat especially in the north on their depletable natural resourse(Oil). I am a Yoruba Man from Ile-Ife, I can tell you as a matter of fact that Yoruba will not make any attempt to hold together the entity called Nigeria if any slitting action should commence. I belong to the prime youth who have lost all and having no iota of trust in the entity called Nigeria. I do not know why you think it is the 'beaten elite' that are singing this song but judging from your highly placed self esteem and for the fact that you are totally removed from the 'streetz', I think you are highly mis informed due to lack of proper connection.

I see a very clear cut case of denial from a man that has so much to loose from the break-up of Nigeria. The earlier you face the obvious fact the better....when even non-Nigerians are already simulating effect of Nigeria break up in the neighboring countries, you are still dreaming of "God knows what", sir, remove your head from the cloud and face the facts, truth and voices from the 'streetz'.

Here is a break-down of my claimed touch with the 'streetz':

I grew up in a village in Ife, which I always visit, so I know their view sir.

I just finished from University some few years ago, I know the reasoning of 'those students' as you always refer to 'those leaders of tomorrow'

I worked on Lagos Highland for like 3-4 years now, I know your type, they are mostly residing there.

I go to the north regularly to visit my brother, I have an idea of what they think (my bros doesn't live in the GRA, streetz credibility again)

I actually stay at Ago, Ikotun in Lagos, the most densely Igbo populated area in Lag, we do discuss their 'Biafra mentality' well.

The above people are the 70% below poverty line, and the lower middle class to which I just join.

Judging by the fact that you have houses all over the entire geo-political zones of Nigeria, You no doubt belong to the 5% upper class in naija.

If am to meet you one-on-one with something am about to gain from you or hope to gain from you, I bet you I will be nodding and approving of all your myopic views as I guess people are always doing for you to blow your Ego.

But as of now, am a total stranger online giving you facts from the real Nigerian streetz...
