The government - facing demands from the business community - is considering reviving the 'national carrier' by buying into Air Uganda, a development that has been received with mixed feelings.
A good idea!! I would suggest that Uganda should actually start an all
cargo Airline and operate it for a period of two years with dry-leased
(using our own crews, etc.,) before going into passenger operations as the
latter tend to accrue a great deal of overhaeads and bureaucracy. They
should take a leaf from DAS AIR that operated successfully until European
aviation regulations curtailed its operations. Uganda Airlines could then
monopolise the influx cargo, e.g. oil fields related goods and eport of
fresh produce.
