The New Republic Liberia (Monrovia), 17 March 2013
President Ellen Johnson Sirleaf minced no words in, once again, deriding the mess that characterizes the country's educational system, blaming it largely on corruption and other forms of insensitivity and dishonesty perpetuated by those in authority.
Bring the most excellent writers and Phd holders of this nation together,
get them to produce Liberian-written textbooks, teach our children
patriotism and nationalism, give scholarships to those students interested
in becoming teachers or subsidize the cost of teacher training; maybe these
few steps will help start the process.
The over hualing of Liberia's education system indeed, needs to be done as
soon as possible. There are public Schools right in the Monrovia
Metropolis, that are so over populated, with no addiquate seating for the
kids. Their roofs leaks when it rains, and nothing has been done about
them. Some of those schools are just less then 15 miles form the city
center. So, you can imaging schools in the rural parts of the country.
Changes must come quakely beginning with the education ministry.
