I for one am shocked at this news. One knows that the time for death will
come for anyone on this planet but it is still a shock nonetheless. Chinua
Achebe not only was an internationally renowned literary figure, he was
ultimately a patriot and a representative for morality in Nigeria. He had
tried repeatedly to involve himself in the affairs of Nigeria, first in the
1970's. He sadly ended up thumbing his nose on a number of occasions at the
Federal Government when he was invited to receive honorary awards most
recently in 2011. That brought attention to the disgust he had for the
power structure and how much evil exists in the system. He also was the
subject of mass controversy in 2012 over his assessment of Obafemi
Awolowo's role in the civil war. As far as I know, he was objective in his
analysis, but this stoked a lot of division in our society. Nonetheless,
Chinua Achebe will be remembered as a prolific figure not only in the
literary world, but in the political and national arena. May his soul rest
in peace.
A Patriotic Nigerian, Literary giant, Amazing personality, Pride of Africa,
and great leader is gone to the great beyond. Prof, rest in peace! We will
all miss you!!
MAY HIS SOUL REST IN PERFECT PEACE. IT'S SO HEARTBREAKING TO SEE A/AN TRUE
BELIEVER AFRICAN SON TO JUST SUDDENLY PASS AWAY. MAY THE ALMIGHTY LORD BE
WITH HIS SOUL, AND REST IN PEACE.
It is indeed sad news and I want to add my condolences to the family, the
local community, the country of origin Nigeria and the African continent at
large as well as the world, for losing such an academic champion of African
literature. I originate from Sudan and I started reading Chinua's novels at
the age of 14 in 1985 and fall in love with his writings ever since then.
May God rest his soul in eternal peace. Duku

To a true son of the continent, to the novelist and writer, who wielded his pen in the rare service of wisdom, thank you. RIP.

This world is a place of nothing to say or do what makes us think we own our life at our hands
