The government has suspended laws criminalising same-sex relationships and police have been ordered not to arrest or prosecute homosexuals until parliament has debated the issue.
i expected some local informed commentary and saw 4 advestising abuse cases
which had no bearing on your very informative ( not only balanced but
well written article )but someone is not doing the job if these silly
adverts can be on your webpage since the 6th.
Human Rights Watch (Washington, DC), 6 November 2012
The Malawian government's decision to suspend enforcement of laws that criminalize consensual same-sex conduct is the right thing to do, and should serve as an inspiration to other countries that criminalize homosexuality, Human Rights Watch said.
Open Society Initiative for Southern Africa (Johannesburg), 2 October 2012
One of the earliest indications that Joyce Banda was going to be a very different president from her predecessor, Bingu wa Mutharika, was her suggestion - soon after coming to power - that her government would review Malawi's anti-gay laws. While pleasing some key donors and making headlines, the new policy did not find many backers in Malawi. And the question now is whether - six months down the ...
The very fact that people are having control of their hearts between
consenting adults is bad enough but men 14 years ,women why 5 ?
Some old has been macho man must have invented this discrimination on top
of the real discrimination.
It is laughable .
Instead of why 5 how about a big increase in " high 5 " where the idea
that people have the right to "love one another as they wish to be loved
" gosh with ideas like that you could really bury the old control religions
and have All within the Lord's Grace.
By selling the presidential jet and getting rid of 60 limousines driven by high-ranking officials, Joyce Banda, Malawi's new president, is making waves.
I think I agree with madam president on this issue. If the UN had declared
that the gays, lesbians and the likes have a right to defend, uphold and
protect, then our governments n the public should change their opinions and
attitude about it! Look at the case in Uganda. Death sentences? No that is
too much..Remember the RIGHT TO LIFE. Gaysm, lesbianism n the likes DO NOT
impede exercising of this right. Let us stop being so pious as to lose
focus on an antelope at the sight of a cheeter!
Banning same sex marriage creates more of what we don’t want in society.
What people don’t get is the people attracted to people will get it
together no mater what the law is – what we do not want in society is
promiscuity, cheating on one another, dodgy bars, sham marriages, people
getting together in public shrubbery etc no matter if the people are hetro
or homo. By normalising and opening up same sex relationships those who are
by birth/nature attracted to the same sex can live normal lives with decent
moral values, even adopting those kids who the hetros leave in gutters.
Making laws banning it does not reduce the fact that there are homos out
there so it is then just plain and simple oppression.
Only when a gay couple, Tiwonge Chimbalanga and Steven Monjeza, decided to come out in the open and become engaged in December 2009 did a blanket of silence lift from Malawi society around lesbian, gay, bisexual and transgender (LGBT) rights. Malawi authorities arrested the two, causing an international outcry.
