The international community should now put pressure on this imperial dictator to fire her sons, cousins, sister, best friend, neices and all others who she has brought ot fill the governemnt. There are others both home and abroad who are suitable. Her family clan are so well educated let them find jobs in other sectors of the private sector. She wants to tell us that paying Binyah Kessely $15,000 a month for the Maritime is not corruption? How is he qualified for het job? His father founded the Unity Party of Ellen Johnson , that is his qualification.

I will not fire my sons, “my family faultless”, yes, the president is right. No one wants you to fire your sons. This road is not strange to Liberian people. For family members to surround the president is a common practice in the political sphere of Liberia. Please leave old ma Ellen to enjoy her health trips. But still I am concerned about this precarious move by Ellen as it has the propensity to back fire. There is a new field, traditional known but has surfaced in businesses and government most recently. It is called ethics that deals with standards of right and wrong that prescribe what we ought to be, the way decisions are made and moral judgment. Having your sons directly reporting to you, or you as their direct supervisor is a conflict –of interest. Ma Ellen, we love you and that why we gave you a second term. Try to work on the roads, bridges, etc. We have not started auditing of your sons, but you came to their defense too hard. “Just do the right that is ethical and acceptable to people…..Worcester,MA

    • Liberia: Gongloe Calls for Ellen's Resignation

      Heritage (Monrovia), 26 November 2012

Pres. Ellen Johnson-Sirleaf was on foreign soil (the Netherlands) when she said that she WILL NOT fire her sons. That statement in itself is an affront to every Liberian, educated and illiterate, alike. She basically said, I need to put my children in certain positions in order for me to protect my administration and prepare (groom) them to take over from me when I leave office --- Nonsense! Obviously, she DID NOT learn anything from the ultimate fate of her predecessors who practiced NEPOTISM and TRIBALISM. Personally, that is very, very sad for Africa's first female Head of State. As president of any democratic nation one has only one(1) task: Follow (or uphold) the law of the land to 'the letter', that is your oath. Ellen Johnson-Sirleaf has options; she needs to fire her sons and other immediate family members from her administration. The future of the Republic of Liberia and all Liberians as a collection is, by far, more important than any particular group of Liberians or one particular family like the Ellen Johnson-Sirleaf family.

One more noteworthy point of interest. The voice of the University of Liberia student community has ALWAYS serve as a Reliable Indicator for gauging the democratic status of every Liberian administration --- usually, if they start speaking against your administration, you'll ultimately fall. Beware!

It is sad that after all the hard work at reform president Johnson-Sirleaf could make such an obvious bad judgement in the placement of her sons in such key government positions. I wish she would, for the good of the nation, remove her sons and continue with the good work she has started - even if it means taking a chance on others less qualified. She has been such an inspiration to me.

It seems that Article 5(C) of the Constitution does not define a law against nepotism per se. The provision allows for a framework that empowers the Legislature to enact nepotism law, a law defining and setting standards of what constitute nepotism. It can only be said that the president breaches this article where she stops the Legislature from enacting such a nepotism law but until the law is enacted, she can not be in violation of a law that does not exist. It seems that the Sirleaf saga provides an opportunity for lawmakers to carry-out their legislative responsibility by passing a clear-cut law against nepotism in government as a whole and not just one which tagets the president. But it seems that rather than deal with issue in earnest some lawmakers are only politicizing it. I'm sure many of them have their relatives and children working right in their offices. They don't have the moral backbone to bring about change.

Pres. Sirleaf could be testing the morality of the society thru our lawmakers like in the case of the "Code of Conduct Law" which has remained idled in the Legislature for years now, shows that there is a problem with morality in our country. Lawmakers have no principles at all. None whatsoever!

    DOLO MACK WRITES,

    LOST LUXURY OF INTEGRITY:

A world in which each man, the know how and the profess to know respected thwe soul of all other men, leaders and God fearing peoples no matter how little they seemed to merit respect, would be crimeless. It is obviously doutful if Tiawon Saye Gongloe Sirleaf who at the time was so favored by Ma Ellen, who was then uncle to Mr. Robert Sirleaf and was appointed the Newly invented Solicitor General of Liberia, the poistion he always fought Theophilus Goule for through witchcraft that was possibly found in every leafs from Nimba county, appointed Labor Minister but was denied confrimation by the Senate (7) times before confrimation would ever open his little mouth if he were still employed in the government of Liberia.

Almost all contemporary left wing Human Right activits or leftist like Tiawon Saye Gongloe of our generation and the last attacked the idea of nationalism, competency and so called nepotism and stood behind the banner of the constitution of 500BC.Throughout their lives it remains true that what is nerest to their bodies is of greatest interest to their mind, and what is not close to their bodies makes them uncomfortable to draw attentions from every coners possible.

NEPOTISM-FAVORITISM SHOWN OR PATRONAGE GRANTED TO RELATIVES AND TAKEN BACK WHEN THE GIVER NOMORE FEEL YOUR CONTRIBUTION TO THE TASK IS IN ANY WAY WORTHY. WOW!.

If one were to re-define nepotism in the context that society and History would judge, probably one would not enjoy knowing the actural meaning, not because the taste has improved, but because it has not sufficient practice to be able to rely on it's taste and definition as a means of permanant pleasure especially in Africa. So people are tending to combine the lose taste and definition nearest to their knowledge with something bigger and authentic like the constitution. If they succed, they lose the weight they want to attach, or simply don't know from one day to the next what will please them.

The concept of nepotism has been so obfuscated and misrepresented, so infused with emotion, favoritism, persecution and arrogant exploitation that this writer hesitates to admit ever the possibility of its existence.

Yet, my little mind remembered that the trouble about leftist so called Human Rights activits is of twofold, they cannot learn to accept truths which are too complicated, they quickly forget truths and favors that are too simple.

Ellen Johnson - Sirleaf is the most dangerous woman in Africa's history. She is corrupt, selfish and greedy. This wicked woman has the courage to say besides her children no other Liberian is qualified and trusted to government offices? Gush! As a person that restore freedom and democracy to Liberia when she was hiding abroad, I am disturbed by her fool talk.

This President will say and do anything, once she realizes it will benefit her personally. She once supported President Charles Taylor, and advocated the violent overthrow of President Doe and the destroction of the Executive Mansion in order to smoke-out Samuel Doe. She calls herself Americo-Liberian when it is beneficial to her, and she becomes Gola woman when she wants the votes of the native women of Liberia. She is a typical Liberian politician who happens to be a female, a typical African politician who resides over an economic where her children and other polical elite are amassing fortunes and deposits in banks abroad while the majority of liberians live in abject poverty. She provides good jobs for her children, other relatives and friends, she provides them with jobs that pay as high as similar jobs in the United States, if not higer, while the majority of her fellow citizens (Liberians)are lacking access to basic social services such as sanitation, clean drinking water, good education(Elementary,Junior & Senior high) and affordable health care. What a scam perpetuated on Liberia?

Article 5(C) of the Liberian Constitution does not define a law against nepotism per se. The provision allows for a framework that empowers the Legislature to be able to enact a nepotism law. Such a law would define and set standards of what should constitute nepotism. It can only be said that the president breaches this article where she tries to hinder the Legislature from enacting such a nepotism law. However, until such a law is enacted, she can not be in violation of nepotism in the legal sense because no such law exist at the moment. It seems that Sirleaf's appointment of her son provides an opportunity for lawmakers to carry-out their legislative responsibility by passing a clear-cut law against nepotism in government as a whole. However, such a law will have to be comprehensive for the public sector not just meant to only target the president or a select group of people. But it seems that rather than deal with this issue in earnest some lawmakers are only politicizing the issue. I'm sure many of them have their relatives and children working right in their offices and receiving scholarships to attend colleges abroad on taxpayer's money. Therefore, it is not surprising that they lack the moral backbone to enact such a law.

Pres. Sirleaf could be testing the morality of the society thru our lawmakers like in the case of the "Code of Conduct Law" which has remained idled in the Legislature for years now. This shows that there is a problem with morality in our country. Lawmakers have no principles at all. None whatsoever! Conceptually, an appointment of a relative in itself may not be unlawful since to be in breach of nepotism it must be proven that the appointment was based strictly on favouritism without any consideration of merit. The challenge is left with our lawmakers to enact a national law. Until then, Gongloe's recommendation for Sirleaf's resignation has no legal foundation.

NEPOTISM is the issue. Liberians are concerned about the Sirleaf family crossing the line! It’s about RIGHT vs. WRONG not about how trustworthy or qualified Charles Sirleaf, Fumba Sirleaf, or Robert Sirleaf is. Every member of the Sirleaf family working in government Must resign or their mother (Ellen Johnson-Sirleaf) needs to fire them. It’s about nepotism and it sounds very ugly, especially so, when it involves Africa’s First Female President! It’s no longer a Liberian issue, the International Community is watching and it’s WRONG!!!

Madame President... It is not the noisy minority but the absolutely majority, the common Liberians with whom you lack trust. You are right about hiring the right people for the job but are your friends and sons the only right people available? In 2008 after being elected the first Black president of the United States, Obama didn't issue U.S. citizenship to all his Kenya relatives nor did he hire his buddies from College. Instead he appointed Hilary Clinton, one of his bitter rivals to be his Secretary of State and surrounded himself with capable personelles not his wife relatives or his'. Madame President, it is because of people like you and numerous others including Charles Taylor and PJ... etc that most of us, Liberians are parentless, helpless and hopeless, yet you take pride in appeasing your western friends than caring for the common Liberian at home. Madame President, instead of spending the majority of your time in foreign countries accepting awards you don't deserve, I would recommend you spending some time at home, focusing on nation building. Madame president, I recommend you focus on sensible business regulations that promote confidence in our economy among consumers, entrepreneurs and businesses alike. This can be accomplished by firing corrupt officials even if that include your son or sons. Madame president, maintaining a world-class system of primary and secondary education with high standards in which all students can reach their potential is critically important to Liberia’s future - you need to invest the country resources in education, that means building and maintaining schools and the best available scholars in Liberia... not sending people abroad to study! Madame President instead of flying to America or Europe for routine medical check-ups, the country would be well served if you invested in the country healthcare system... We need common-sense reforms that will lower costs, ensure quality health care that Liberians deserve... Remember the proclamation you made back in 1990 to your then best friend Charles Taylor... that he should destroy the executive mansion... that which represents the greatness of Liberia and that you were going to rebuild it in less than a year? Well, you have been in power more than 6 years and you are not remotely closed to that objective... Instead of focusing on nation building at home, you invest your energy and and Liberia's resources on your image building abroad. I applaud you for the magnificent work you have done in regard to freedom of speech but what use is this mandate to the common citizens of Liberia when these poor people lack any voice due to hunger and poor health? A hungry/sick man is a voiceless man....

The Liberian Laws Maker are not respected, they don't know their responsibilities to our country, they scramble to get a share or cut from a closed door deal which is intended to denied our country from receiving the rightful due, this attitude continued in the oldest republic in Africa. The law makers and the president have common goal...me,myself, my family. let Liberia wait. Now, how many law makers ever object to those bad decisions the president makes from time to time?

Mr. Sirleaf said all the right things but the matter still remains. He cannot be an advisor to the president while at the same time being the chairman of NOCAL. There are plentiful of qualified Liberians who could occupy this position. There is no question that he is capable of performing the duties bestowed upon him but there are countless unemployed Liberian and therefore he alone cannot occupy all of these positions. Also... even though he is the son of President Sirleaf, according to Snowe and others, he holds an American passport. If this is true, then by Liberian law he is deemed unfit to hold both the chairman and advisory role. The GOL could ask the U.S. gov't to release Mr. Sirleaf's U.S. record, which would clarify this. However, I am afraid that since Mr. Sirleaf is the son of President Sirleaf and President Sirleaf is a puppy of the U.S., they might cover it up!! God please help Liberia

I think if Layman returns to Liberia, I give her a year or two and she will be sitting back in the US or other country to join the club of qualified Liberians President Sirleaf has driven out of the country. Anyone who criticizes the president will find peace and safety in Liberia. They hire criminals to terrorize you at night and if you call the police, you will be making a big mistake. Layman is now on the list and it is just a matter of time. Her foundation might even dish her because Ellen might appoint the director of her foundation as the new reconciliation person. If you think I am lying, answer the following questions: Where are Massa Washington and cllr. Verdier? where is Sayeh? Where is John Morlu? I think Ellen is no different from former president Doe, but what is holding her back is the United Nations. When UN leaves Liberia, all hair will break loose in Liberia.
