Ethiopian Prime Minister Hailemariam Desalegn reiterated the government's intention to proceed with construction of the Renaissance Dam on the Blue Nile despite vocal opposition from Egyptian officials.
Ethiopia's Sovereignty as a nation and the right to use its God-given
natural resources to benefit its people has to be respected by Egypt and
other nations. Though we have tons of natural resources to take care of
the need of our growing population, for so many years, Ethiopia's
government have stood by and watched its people suffer form the lack of
electricity which could hve better lives and enable us to modernize our
country. Now Ethiopia is waking up and doing the long everdue project Egypt
should support and diplomatically and financially and ask Ethiopia to
construct the dam in such a way it benefits both countries. Egypt has
benefited from Blue Nile for decades and gave nothing in return to
Ethiopia. Threats of war has never shaken us and it never will, Egypt
should not knows who Ethiopians are!
Ethiopian Prime Minister Hailemariam Desalegn yesterday reiterated his government's stance on the construction of the Renaissance Dam on the River Nile which is heightening tension between his country and Egypt, saying the dam is a major undertaking to lead Ethiopia out of poverty and no one has the power to stop it.
Africa needs a dedicated leaders like you Museveni for supporting Ethiopia
stand! what the other black Africans leaders are waiting?? All Africans
should know that Egypt want to attack Ethiopia not only for the sake of dam
problem, but also they want to send bold message to other countries.Like
Kenya, Tanzania, Uganda---
50 countries are behind Ethiopia excluding Israel, China, Russia, even USA
whom Ethiopia helped her in war in terror by dismantling Alquid terrorists
in East Africa, so Egypt should calculate the catastrophic consequence
which definitely follow them. Without 3rd world war, imagine what will
follow when Aswan is hit by the destroyer, think also if it is spoiled by
chemicals.
Ethiopian Radio and Television Agency (Addis Ababa), 13 June 2013
"It is high time for Egypt to appreciate that the Nile is not Egyptian, but an African river. Egypt should not issue empty threats of war, but endorse Ethiopia's dam programme and work together with Sudan and South Sudan to ensure its full potential is realised. More than any other gesture in international politics, this would mark a return of Egyptian statesmanship and pave the way for a future ...
