TB Cases Down For First Time in Decade - Report

For the first time in a decade, Kenya has registered a decline in the number of people suffering from tuberculosis on an annual basis. The World Health Organisation has recognised Kenya and Tanzania for achieving a decline in TB patients, noting that fewer people are dying of the disease and fewer are falling ill. According to new data published on Tuesday in the WHO 2011 global tuberculosis control report, the number of people dying from the disease fell to its lowest level in a decade.

The current method of TB testing relies on labour-intensive microscopy.
