Africa's Merchant of Death Jailed

Victor Bout, the Russian arms dealer who supplied arms to many African fighting forces, sometimes supplying both sides in a war, was jailed for 25 years in a New York Court on Thursday. Bout has been named in a range of government and journalists' investigations as having supplied weapons to both governments and rebels, arming troops or fuelling fighting in Angola, the Democratic Republic of the Congo, Liberia, Libya, Mali, Rwanda, Sierra Leone and Togo. However, the case which saw his downfall had nothing to do with trafficking arms in Africa - it arose from a sting operation in which he agreed to sell weapons to Colombian guerillas to kill Americans.

Convicted arms dealer, Victor Bout.
