    Friends,

I just created a new petition and I hope you can sign -- it's called: Block War Escalation in Somalia!

This issue is very important to me, and together we can do something about it!

Read more about it and sign it here: http://www.avaaz.org/en/petition/Block_Escalation_of_the_War_in_Somalia_1/? launch

Campaigns like this always start small, but they grow when people like us get involved -- please take a second right now to help out by signing and passing it on.

    Thanks so much, Joan

In my opinion the Somali and Kenyan forces will not be accomplish their military objectives. Unless the forces commit substantial military and logistic resources to the campaign they will not be able to permanently rid the city of Al Shaabab fighters. About 200,000 residents live in the port city. Not all of them are in favor of a Kenyan imposed administration that will seek to install in power a rival clan. Until Somalia is able to provide law and order for all of its citizens there will always be a vacuum into which Al Shaabab fighters can seek refuge and support. Maybe Kenya’s objective was to occupy Kismayo.
