Liberia: Sirleaf Acts Against Illegal Logging


Following mounting criticism from local and international groups that multinational companies were taking over a significant portion of the country's virgin forests in dubious deals, and the subsequent setting up of a special investigative committee, President Ellen Johnson Sirleaf has begun to take action against those accused.

A report by Global Witness uncovered how "secret logging contracts" were awarded.
