Africa Talks Tough to Malagasy Politicians

As Madagascar lurches towards new elections, African countries have welcomed an electoral court ruling disqualifying key candidates, and the African Union has warned political leaders not to attempt to undermine the decision.

Members of the Special Electoral Court, which has barred nine candidates from the October elections, among them the current ruler Andry Rajoelina - who seized power from president Marc Ravalomanana - Lalao Ravalomanana, wife of the deposed president, and ex-president Didier Ratsiraka.
