Renewed Focus on Saving Newborn Lives

The British medical journal The Lancet has published a series of papers asserting what public health experts have been learning - that it is possible and affordable to save the lives of most newborn babies who now die from preventable causes. The 'Every Newborn' series provides comprehensive data for 195 countries regarding neonatal deaths, stillbirths, rankings for countries, rates of progress and coverage of birth certification. Experts say over 70 percent of newborn deaths can be prevented.
