New Polio Case Spurs Nigeria Action

The third wild polio virus case announced 23rd June by the Kano State Government has prompted calls for intensified eradication efforts. This monrh, Aliko Dangote told Kano Governor Rabi'u Musa Kwankwaso and Bill & Medlinda Foundation co-chair Bill Gates that the Dangote Foundation will build 11 health centres across Kano to support immunization and polio eradication, despite security challenges. The three wild polio cases this year are down from 13 Kano cases in 2013, according to the U.S. Centres for Disease Control.. Dangote, Gates and USAID have also stepped up polio erdication, along with efforts to combat malaria and measles and reduce child and maternal mortality in Bauchi State.
