Ethiopia Works to Bolster Historic City Tourism

Revenues and jobs from what had been a vibrant tourism sector have been plummeting across Africa, largely due to uninformed fears of Ebola in areas thousands of miles from the nearest case. Some safari companies in east and southern Africa have reported bookings down as much as 70 per cent. Ethiopia, in the far northeast, with its ancient monasteries and churches, its highly rated international carrier, Ethiopian Airlines, and its status as the home of panAfrican and international organizations, hopes that its cities as well as its picturesque countryside can continue to attract both leisure and conference tourism.
