Army Says Calm Restored to Nigeria's Maiduguri After Fresh Attack

The Nigerian military says an attack by Boko Haram militants launched Sunday on the strategically important Nigerian city of Maiduguri has been repelled. The Nigerian Armed Forces on its official Twitter account said: "Attack on Maiduguri successfully repelled. Many Terrorists were killed as we inflicted heavy casualties on them.: And in a second tweet: "Armored vehicles, Artillery guns and many vehicles captured from terrorists in disarray as Military pursued them in #Borno and #Adamawa." According to Premium Times, the counter-attack was  carried out by "a combined force of soldiers and operatives of the local vigilante," known as the Civilian Joint Task Force.
