Obama Taps Gayle Smith to Lead USAID

Gayle Smith, senior director for development and democracy at the White House National Security Council, has been nominated by President Obama to head the U.S. Agency for International Development. Smith is a former a former journalist and longtime Africa expert who spent two decades in Africa reporting for news organizations, including AP, the BBC, and AllAfrica's predecessor, Africa News Service.
