Lesotho Backs Down in Face of Regional Pressure

AllAfrica's news partners are unveiling the inside story of what happened during and after a summit which saw Southern African leaders confront their Basotho counterparts on Monday.

From Gaborone, The Patriot reports that Botswana's President Ian Khama reprimanded Lesotho's Prime Minister Pakalitha Mosisili during the summit over his refusal to receive a judicial commission's report on the assassination of a former military chief.

From Maputo, AIM reports that Mozambican President Filipe Nyusi says the Lesotho government has now agreed to receive the report. Nyusi also confirmed that the report called for the firing of Lesotho's defence minister and army commander.

Friendlier times: Lesotho's Prime Minister, Pakalitha Mosisili, left, with South African Deputy President Cyril Ramaphosa, the regional facilitator of talks with Lesotho, in September 2014.
