The decision by President Yahya Jammeh to declare Gambia an Islamic state adds to his anti-Western rhetoric, which could help him gain stronger support amongst certain voters in December polls, writes Gustavo Plácido dos Santos, a researcher at the Portuguese Institute of International Relations and Security.
