Unabated Violence Against Women Undermines #16Days Campaign

No arrests have yet been made in the killing of 22-year-old lesbian Noluvo Swelindawo. Gender activist Funeka Soldaat says Swelindawo's murder highlights an urgent need for a day dedicated to educating people about homophobia and how to stop it. The young woman's death comes amid the 16 Days of Activism for No Violence Against Women and Children campaign and the proposed widespread adoption of Sexual Offences Courts in the country.
