Trump Sends Envoy to Zimbabwe, Tightens Screws on Mugabe

President Robert Mugabe's hopes for improved relations between his government and U.S. President Donald Trump's administration has suffered a blow after visiting U.S. Deputy Assistant Secretary of State for African Affairs, Carol O'Connel, demanded a raft of political and economic reforms ahead of the 2018 elections. Relations between the two countries took a knock in 2001 when the George W. Bush-led government enacted sanctions against Zimbabwe.
