Nigerian Governor Elevates Ibadan State's Hierarchy

The Governor of Ibadan Abiola Ajimobi, has said, at the installation of the new monarchs, that he was not changing history but promoting and elevating the Ibadan traditional hierarchy. He noted that the coronation would not undermine the authority of the Olubadan who is the king, a largely ceremonial role.

Oyo State Governor Abiola Ajimobi installed 21 new monarchs in Ibadan to change the age-long monarchical setting of the ancient city. The new obas, were elevated from high chiefs and baales to beaded crown monarchs.
