Commonwealth Games - Gold, Silver and a Touch of Bronze

The Commonwealth Games got off to a flying start for Africa with South Africa shining in the pool with several gold and silver medals, while also taking home silver in women's bowls, gold in the men's triathlon and gold and silver in the men's 100m event. Uganda won gold in the women's 10,000m race and in boxing, and bronze in the 1,500m race, while Cameroon won bronze in the women's 90kg weightlifting event. Nigeria has also opened its account at the games with some gold and silverware! This as Tanzania bemoans its losing streak at the Commonwealth Games while Gambia's hopes are being kept alive for the women's 100m. Botswana has just entered with their gold and silver and Namibia has one for boxing. South Africa won gold and silver in the long jump event, while waiting to see Caster Semenya's run in the 800m.
