The initiative stretches 7,700 kilometers from Senegal in the west to Djibouti in the east. Dubbed the Great Green Wall of the Sahel, the project is intended to serve as a bulwark against desertification in an aim to restore farmlands and natural ecosystems while lifting communities out of poverty.
