The war on graft now appears to have regained momentum after Mps finally approved the names of Mumo Matemu, Jane Onsongo and Irene Keino to head the ethics and anti-corruption commission. During the debate on a motion tabled by leader of government business, Vice President Kalonzo Musyoka, an amendment by Ikolomani Mp Bonny Khalwale to have Mumo Matemu omitted from the list was defeated. Khalwale had opposed Matemu's nomination citing personal integrity concerns, but a majority of mps argued that the war on graft had stalled due to lack of stable leadership at the anti-graft body and delaying the process further would only serve to aggravate the situation. And as Chris Thairu reports, the names now just await presidential assent before the nominees formally assume office.
A high court has been prompted to halt the new head of the Ethics and Anti-Corruption body from taking up his position after serious allegations about his appointment surfaced. Read more »
