Sudan Dismisses South Sudan's Compensation Proposal

South Sudan has offered its neighbor Sudan more than 3 billion dollars in compensation for economic losses caused by the South's independence. The two countries are holding talks in Ethiopia in a bid to resolve bitter disputes ahead of a United Nations deadline in August 2nd. Juba also proposes an increased transit fee to move its oil through Sudan and says it will waive its claim to nearly 5 billion dollars it says it is owed by Khartoum. Khartoum has not responded to the proposals. South Sudan's Chief Negotiator, Pagan Amum, said Juba had tabled its "last offer"
