Leaders From the Muslim Community including Members of Parliament, have today called for the withdrawal of the Prevention of Terrorism Bill 2012 saying that in its current form, the proposed law is draconian and can easily be abused to persecute sections of Kenyan society. If enacted, the new law will allow the interception and tapping of communication, and seizure of properties as well as arrest of suspects if government agents believe there is a threat of terror. The leaders insist that there are enough laws to tackle the threat of terror and have warned that the bill could lead to the segregation of the Muslim society.
