In Somalia, piracy is reported to have dropped by more than 50 per cent in the last two years. Some 100 people are still held captive by pirates. Many ships taken hostage by pirates were released by ransom. Rescue missions have been avoided for fear of causalities but not in the case of MV Iceberg 1 whose crew members who had spent three years in captivity celebrated new years day with their loved ones. The 22 surviving crew were rescued by a Maritime Police Force of Punt-land Somalia as Frank Walusimbi reports.
