South African Paralympian Oscar Pistorius is to appear in a Pretoria court for the alleged murder of his model girlfriend Reeva Steenkamp. He is expected to apply for bail and argue that he mistakenly shot her. South Africa's police have said they will oppose bail. The shooting which took place at Pistorius' home on Valentines day has shocked many and has been met with much reaction from civil society groups and NGO's as well as the athletics federation.
