Eskom has moved to calm fears over looming power cuts. Possible blackouts have been blamed for the weakening Rand. It echoes the currency's drop in 2008, when the Rand plummeted by 15 percent after coal shortages forced Eskom to cut power to mines. The Rand was trading at R9.24 to the dollar on Tuesday.
