South Africa's Police Boss Fails to Deliver Answers at Marikana Hearing

National Police Commissioner Riah Phiyega seems to have no clear answers about what happened during the so-called Marikana massacre.


Police gunned down 34 miners during an illegal strike at Lonmin's Marikana mine in 2012.  Another 10 people were killed in the week before the massacre.  The evidence leader for the Marikana Commission of Inquiry into the shooting on Tuesday had a frustrating time trying to get answers out of the police chief.
