Nelson Mandela's Family Thanks Nation for Support

Former President Nelson Mandela's wife Graca Machel told the SABC that the family is humbled by the support it has received from South Africans and people around the world.

The 94-year-old former president remains in hospital under treatment for pneumonia and is reported to be improving.

Meanwhile, President Jacob Zuma says former president Nelson Mandela's condition has improved markedly.

Zuma visited the 94-year-old statesman in hospital on Friday. Mandela was admitted to hospital just over a week ago with pneumonia.

Presidential spokesperson, Mac Maharaj says: "President Jacob Zuma visited former President Mandela in hospital today. And received a briefing from doctors that Madiba is stable and we are thankful that he's responding well from treatment. We remain thankful for all the support to the family during this difficult time."

Zuma also met members of the family who also expressed their gratitude for the support from South Africans and from people

On a lighter note, Organisers of the Nelson Mandela Square Antiques Fair in Sandton have dedicated the fair to the speedy recovery of Madiba.

The event will host over 60 antique dealers on the Upper and Lower Levels of Nelson Mandela Square on Sunday and will have a special focus exhibition on collecting books and signatures with Madiba collectables also up for grabs.
