Calls have been made for suppliers involved in a South African meat scandal to face criminal charges, and even spend time in jail. Popular retail giants like Pick n Pay, Checkers, Spar and Woolworths have been implicated in a study showing that some meat products were incorrectly labeled. Research by the University of Stellenbosch has revealed that nearly 60 percent of the products tested contained ingredients not listed on the labels.
