"The Convert" is a new play that premiered in January 2012 at the McCarter Theatre Center in Princeton, NJ. It's written by Danai Gurira, a young Zimbabwe-American playwright who is also an accomplished actor. Currently, she's starring in "The Walking Dead" in the role of Michonne.

In "The Convert," Danai tells the story of a village girl who escapes a forced marriage to a man with multiple wives by embracing Christianity. In the process, she is freed from oppressive traditions, but her ties to her family are tested as well.

Danai Gurira was born in America but raised in Zimbabwe. "The Convert" is the first in a series of plays she plans to write about Zimbabwean history and identity. Produced by Susan Wallner.
