Given the widespread distribution of drylands in sub-Saharan Africa, and the extent of fish production and regional trade on the continent, all fisheries in sub-Saharan Africa do, or have the potential to, contribute to the livelihoods of people in the drylands; either directly to those fishers and fish farmers working in dryland areas, or as a vital source of food for drylands populations. This paper takes a continent-wide perspective to address the current and future contribution of fisheries and aquaculture to drylands livelihoods and resilience.
