UCT student, Kolosa Ntombini, problematizing the presence of white people in a packed Baxter Theatre Hall just as Professor Ngugi wa Thiong'o was about to deliver his lecture, asked the Prof to set the tone and allow the lecture to continue without the presence of white people as they're the architects of black oppression. The event was chaired by UCT Prof, Xolela Mangcu, who attempted to justify the presence of white people and was somehow successful as Ngugi was able to deliver his lecture without any incidents. Prof wa Thiong'o would later address the matter after another student Lindokuhle Patiwe, during a question and answer session, asked him to touch on the matter. The Q n A session came to an abrupt end as a white person attempted to ask a question, it was clear from the disapproving reaction he got that his presence as a white body had been problematized, leading to the chair, Prof Mangcu, to end the night's event. NB: This is not a full account of what transpired last night but just the events pointed to above, other sites may have a full account.
