In April 2017, Gift Ngoepe debuted as the first African-born player in the majors. It was a piece of history that saw him awarded by the minister of sport and recreation at the national awards and inspired other young players from the continent. He recently announced a move to the Toronto Blue Jays after spending nine years with the Pittsburgh Pirates and will be returning to Florida for training in January. For now he is back home after his most significant season.
