Site Reviews and Comments

FORBES -- Best of the Web (Summer 2005)

allAfrica.com -- A strong collection of business news from all regions of Africa. You'll find pieces on things like the debate in Kenya on legislators' bulging salaries, Idi Amin's private island going up for sale and the stabilization of Nigeria's exchange rate. You can search the site by region, looking at separate articles on North, South, East and Central Africa.

britannica.com - The Web's Best Sites

allAfrica.com - Comprehensive resource of news from this continent. Features stories from newspapers, magazines, and news agencies with a country-wise breakdown updated throughout the day. Highlights the major governmnet, political, business, science, sports, health, and entertainment stories from across the continent as well as international news affecting the region.

YAHOO! - top listing on regional directory page

allAfrica.com - distributes the content of numerous African news and media outlets. Get news and feature articles on politics, business, sport, music, books, entertainment, and more.

amazon.com -- Associate of the Month (March 2001)

This month, we salute allAfrica.com for creating a site that brims with content ranging from up-to-the-minute news to the arts and history of Africa. We admire the way their home page centers on top stories and offers a selection of headlines organized by country. On the right, four titles are listed in an editors' picks area, and snapshots of these special titles link over to our site. In a similarly constructed box on the left, you'll find Music and Books links bringing up more choice lists of titles with clickable cover art, short descriptions, and text directing their visitors to place orders on Amazon.com. On a separate page, a comprehensive archive organizes more featured books in a list of text links. Their visitors benefit from a handpicked selection of titles and are guided into daily news. Our congratulations go to the staff at AllAfrica.com for bringing the news and history of Africa, along with erudite recommendations, to the fore!

Foreign Policy: Net Effect : Out of Africa (March/April 2001)

allAfrica.com -- Despite the usual coverage, Africa has more to offer the world than war, starvation, and AIDS. Consider allAfrica.com, a Web site launched in September 2000 as an outgrowth of the nonprofit Africa News Service. You can get all the latest African news—in English and French—from both local newspapers and up-to-the-minute wire services.

Click on different topics to read about religion, children, books, education, or sports on the continent. Or use the site's handy list of countries to go directly to the top headlines from your nation of choice. BBC fans can listen to Webcasts of the British broadcaster's African programs on the site for free. Wireless browsers can even connect to the site via hand-held organizer, thanks to a deal allAfrica.com recently closed with AvantGo. Interestingly, allAfrica.com recently published an editorial from the Nairobi, Kenya, newspaper The Nation warning U.S. President George W. Bush to "tread softly" and "rule less belligerently" in foreign affairs, because "the world is watching." The world is watching indeed. According to the site, 90 percent of allAfrica.com's 6 million monthly page views are outside of Africa.
