The Faculty Association of the University of Liberia (ALFA) has assured President Ellen Johnson Sirleaf of its cooperation in ensuring that the ongoing registration process and the subsequent reopening of the school remains on course. The Association assured the President that it will do nothing to undermine government's efforts to address issues affecting the University of Liberia.

The Acting President of the LAFA, Mr. Clifford Young, said that his Association is aware of the challenges facing government and its efforts in addressing those challenges, but appealed to the President to exert all efforts in addressing the issues affecting the University, particularly the welfare of faculty members. Mr. Young was speaking yesterday at the Foreign Ministry when the Liberian leader met with a delegation of the University Faculty Association in Monrovia. He assured the President that all would be done to ensure that classes at the University resume in the shortest possible time.

President Johnson-Sirleaf informed the UL faculty members that government is seeking short and long-term measures to improve conditions at the University. The Liberian leader said her administration remains committed to ensuring that the University remains a priority in its development agenda.

Meanwhile, President Johnson-Sirleaf will on Thursday, October 5, hold a joint meeting with the University Council and Faculty to discuss issues affecting the University.

The latest decision of the UL faculty comes few days after the faculty said they were boycotting classes in demand of salary increment, although some of the members of the faculty oppose the boycott action.

Meanwhile, many persons have hailed the decision of the faculty to ensure that the on-going registration process and the subsequent reopening of school remain on course.
