Washington, D.C. — A Forum On AIDS In Africa
Wednesday, October 18, 2000
6:30pm to 8:30pm
TransAfrica Forum Building
1744 R Street, NW, Washington, D.C.
For nearly twenty years HIV/AIDS has devastated the world in general and Africa in particular. Recently the United Nations Programme on HIV/AIDS (UNAIDS) reported that 24.5 million people are living with HIV/AIDS in sub-Saharan Africa. With a cure seemingly out of reach at the moment, what initiatives are taking place on the continent to deal with this disease? What role should the United States play?
On Wednesday, October 18, 2000, Anna Awimbo of Microcredit Summit, Clarence Hall of Africare and Michael Riggs, assistant to United States Representative Barbara Lee, explore these questions and many more as they relate to HIV/AIDS in Africa. The discussion, part of the Arthur R. Ashe, Jr. Foreign Policy Library's Viewpoint series, will be moderated by Cece Fadope of National Public Radio's Talk of the Nation. The event will be held at the TransAfrica Forum Building, 1744 R Street, NW, Washington, DC from 6:30pm to 8:30pm.
