Washington — At an international conference this week at Howard University on "The Challenges and Opportunities of Globalization at the Dawn of the Millennium," Howard University is partnering with Africare and others to develop strategies to respond to globalization - the cross-border flow of trade, ideas, technology and people.
Africare's President C. Payne Lucas, the conference's honorary president, will give the closing address at the plenary session tomorrow, April 13, at 1:30 p.m. at the Ralph Bunch Center. Mr. Lucas "set the pace for meaningful global intervention through his work on behalf of impoverished peoples in Africa."
Howard University organized this conference as a first step toward initiating the development of long-term partnership structures linking strategies of the public and private sectors with expertise in the academic arena. Howard University, founded in 1867, has played a dominant role in the education and development of peoples of Africa and African descent.
Africare is a leader in aid to Africa as well as the oldest and largest African-American organization specializing in African aid.
