Africa: News From Allafrica

5 August 2002

Washington, DC — It has been a busy and challenging season at AllAfrica Global Media, the parent of allAfrica.com. We are an African ICT (information and communication technology) company, registered in Mauritius, and in Delaware in the USA.

Our central servers, the technical glue that holds our global grid together, are located near our Washington DC office, where a severe weekend storm blew the roof off our building. We ask for your patience over the next three weeks while we cope with the consequences. You'll still get all the news -- between 700 and 1000 new stories from all over the continent on an average day -- but occasionally with a bit less home-page packaging than normal.

Meanwhile, the non-profit AllAfrica Foundation is readying a new "channel" for the site, to launch in conjunction with the World Summit on Sustainable Development and the Environment (WSSD), which will take place in Johannesburg from August 26-September 4. After the summit, the channel will be a digital forum serving groups working on sustainable development in the African context and will host journalism fellows reporting on those issues.
