Maputo — The Mozambican Ministry of Mineral Resources and Energy has announced cuts in the prices of all liquid fuels, taking effect as from Thursday.
The sharpest fall is for kerosene, which now costs 6,800 instead of 7,690 meticais a litre, a drop of 11.6 per cent. (At current exchange rates, there are 24,000 meticais to the US dollar).
Jet fuel falls by 11 per cent, from 8,119.3 to 7,225.1 meticais a litre.
The price of petrol comes down by 10.3 per cent, falling from 11,870 to 10.650 meticais a litre. The price cut for diesel, however, is only 2.4 percent - from 10,330 to 10.080 meticais a litre.
LPG cooking gas falls in price by just 1.4 per cent, from 14,723.1 to 14,519.4 meticais a kilo.
All these prices are for the main port cities of Maputo, Matola, Beira and Nacala. Elsewhere in the country, distributors are allowed to add their transport costs to the final price of the fuel.
The Mozambican government reviews the prices of fuel every month, and alters them whenever the price of importing petroleum products changes by more than three per cent in either direction, when expressed in meticais.
