Maputo — Mozambique can now export fish-farmed produce, including prawns, to the member states of the European Union.
The EU has approved these exports, after investigating the safety of Mozambican fish-farming methods.
According to an EU press release received by AIM on Monday, this decision was taken after assessing the plans Mozambique presented last year to prevent contamination of fish-farmed produce by substances damaging to public health.
"After evaluating these vigilance plans, the European Commission believes that Mozambique is giving guarantees of quality in his fish-farmed products, which will allow them to be imported by the EU", said the release.
It added that this provides a new opportunity for Mozambique to increase its exports to the European market, and to develop its fish-farming sector.
