Kampala — An all-Ugandan cast will stage the American play Jitney at the National Theatre from 12-23 March, 2003 to commemorate the African-American History Month.
The play, by African-American playwright August Wilson, is set around Jitney or taxi cab drivers in the 1970s. Throughout the past century, Jitneys were often the only cab service available to the African American neighbourhoods, where special hire taxis refused to go.
