Amsterdam — The leading mobile phone provider in Africa, MSI-Cellular, which owns the brand Celtel in many African countries, has established a microwave link between Uganda and Tanzania, in an effort to improve communication services in Uganda, while bringing closer the people of the two countries.

"This is yet another indication of our commitment to the physical integration of Africa", declared Issa Omari, Chief Operations Officer of MSI Cellular. "We don't want to be left out of the efforts to build an African Union".

The new connections between Uganda and Tanzania will also provide a better link between East Africa and neighbouring African Countries.

Celtel's Parent Company, Group Director Operations, Thomas Jonell said that, "With this new link, Celtel's customers will enjoy a quality service that will greatly enhance direct communication by improving call quality and clarity between Celtel and other operators in the East African region".

Jonell also added that this new link is a continuation of Celtel's role in the country's effort to modernize the telecommunication sector and the region.

Prior to this link, if one wanted to call Kenya or Tanzania, it would be routed first to a satellite, either in Europe or America and then back to the intended destination. However with this latest innovation a call would go directly to its intended destination without the hustle of satellite.

Uganda Celtel Managing Director, Mr. Lars Andersen said, "the new microwave was yet another start of a new chapter in communication and not only for Uganda but for the whole East Africa region. This new link is the Company's bid to provide improved usability and accessibility to communication through Celtel as it will enhance the high quality calls and eliminate risk of echoes".

MSI-Cellular is a Pan African telecommunications operation which is present in 14 African countries.
