Nigeria: Health Minister Lambo Justifies Proposed Act

HEALTH Minister Professor Eyitayo Lambo has explained that the proposed enactment of a National Health Policy is aimed at defining the roles of each tier of government and outline the National Health System with a view to saving the ailing health sector.

Professor Eyitayo Lambo, spoke yesterday in Ilorin when he paid a courtesy visit to the Governor of Kwara State, Governor Bukola Saraki, of Kwara State. "The health system that should deliver health services to the people is weak, thereby, reducing life expectancy of the people and increasing child and infant mortality rates," he said, adding "No matter how good your policies are, you cannot achieve anything good in the health sector if you have a weak health system." He revealed that measures to be put in place to improve the nation's health services including meeting with Commissioners for Health through the National Council on Health.
