Shedding the brutal leadership and oppression of the past, today's Uganda has risen Phoenix-like, emerging once again as what Winston Churchill deemed, "the Pearl of Africa." Much of the credit for this nation's new optimism and prosperity is attributed to President Museveni and his vision. Forrest Sawyer, learns, through his voyage, about the spirit of the Ugandan people and the tremendous beauty that surrounds them, beginning with the modern city of Kampala, through Queen Elizabeth and Kibale National Parks to the Nile River and Bwindi Impenetrable Forest. His adventure includes a visit to the ancient Toro Kingdom, where he meets the youngest monarch in the world - twelve-year old King Oyo. Safaris, white water rafting, mountain climbing and seeing the most elusive of all primates - the mountain gorillas - are just a few of the activities awaiting travelers to Uganda.

According to Leonard H. Robinson, President and CEO of the Africa Society, "We are delighted that Discovery Communications has joined with The Africa Society to create programming that accelerates the education of all Americans about the continent of Africa - its people, cultures, history, politics and its natural and archeological wonders.
